I know I'm late to the game but one thing Epicor 9 does not manage well is anything from a project/services standpoint, i.e. if you are a manufacturing company that also has professional services division you'll need to get a different suite of apps to facilitate the services side of your business.

In summary if you are a company that manufacturers products E9 is outstanding. If you service your own products E9 is outstanding. If you manufacturer and service your own products, sell and service other vendors products (VAR), and perform professional services not related to any product whatsoever - E9 cannot manage that scenario.

Mike - You can do this in Epicor 9, but you do have to define the initial BOM. Alot is reusable but there is a good amount of initial definition that can be reused. I'll see if James Norwood can answer this as well for you. - Ray

I'm familiar with the job shop capabilities of Vantage. Does Epicor 9 have the same manufacturing/job shop capability of Vantage? Interested in the ability to configure BOM/Routing for a quote, then when the order is landed take that quote to a work order, build it, ship it without having to define every part in the parts master, BOMs, and routings.

I want to bring Jeeves ERP software to your attention. It`s a powerful package with the possibility to design it to your specific needs.

Maybe this is the solution you are looking for.

Hi Ray

We are an SME by size so mid range products may not be appropriate. Will be looking at SAP Business One,INFOR, IFS, Syspro, Sage 1000, Microsoft AX - Navision is probably not a unified solution.Epicor took a look at the document and declined.....Regards Ross

Hi Paul/Ray

I have just completed a requirements document for Hildon and we currently use Epicor Enterprise. We have used a VAR for the last three years and the decision has been made to look around the marketplace. So far as we are concerned its all about competitive advantage and thats streamlining business processes. Looking at the usual suspects plus a few others. Recommend a tight document to focus vendors minds and save time wasting. Ross

Paul -There are a number of great products for what you do. What I'd suggest is to do a quick business requirements assessment. the short list you have makes sense, but I'd add one or two more option to that list : Plex Systems and Infor. Plex if you want a strong SaaS option. Infor depending on your industry. As for usability and user experience, Epicor 9, MS Dynamics GP and Dynamics NAV, and Plex have excellent usability. If you need anything else write to me at rwang0 AT gmail DOT com - Ray

Do you have any thoughts or comparisons for these:
Epicor 9
MS Dynamics
SAP BusinessOne
Sage MAS90

We are on a old version of Epicor and off maintenance. Company of about 15-20 users in manufacturing. Have not gotten much in the way of costs yet but am wondering how user friendly and intuitive each of these are. Single location in the US and our BOM's may have 30 items, but there may be subassemlies with multiple levels, etc.
Thank you! - Paul

Do you have any comparisons between Epicor Vantage and QAD 2008 or QAD MFG/Pro? Opinions also welcome but looking for similarities and differences. Also does Epicor offer a character interface for users on the shot floor to use?

The other most essential issue to contemplate is the compatibility with the existing plant. This must be taken care of seriously otherwise it'll value you high. Considering these factors will provide help to arrive at a last determination which won't solely save your cost but additionally provide added functionality.

Jenna - the data structures in Epicor 9 will most likely be different from Infoflo 7.0. However, there may be mapping tables that you could leverage. if you like, I could connect you with someone at Epicor to discuss. - Ray

My company is currently running Infoflo 7.0 (have source code/ been modified) and attempted an upgrade to Avante 8.0 years ago (which was eventually shut-down). What are the possibilities of using existing data structures in Epicor 9, if any?

Microsoft Dynamics is the best choice for Mid-Market, low TCO. Epicor partner network is very weak, there is lack of resources globally. In recession times one of the decision EPICOR has taken is to implement the software directly, so that they maintain the topline. When you analyze the new license business & new customer acquisition of EPICOR, they have been losing more customers from the customer base than the addition. For last many years, number of customer has been only 20,000 with all ten products they have in portfolio. This leaves a question while deciding on a new software. I have heard these remarks from customers.

Ray, I didn't think Epicor had anything HRMish except for payroll. What am I missing? What do they really have in HCM? Is there something I can read for the details?
