Ray

I love the expression "one throat to choke" and I think that you hit the nail on the head. I can see the advantages and disadvantages of both sides. I have heard some of my clients bitch and moan about being beholden to one vendor. At the same time, I've heard others complain about being caught in the vast netherworld that exists among different vendors.

The grass is always greener, I suppose.

Great post.

Ray - I've never been a big fan of the "one throat to choke" idea - it always seems to me to be an abrogation of the responsibility for doing your own thinking. I am more concerned by the lock-in factor and the tightly-coupled inflexibility of the model than I am by the somewhat greater overhead of a loosely-coupled best-of-breed mix ... that "one throat to choke" quickly starts to swallow your wallet ...
