Ray - Good software can use Naive Bayes to filter and automate workflow. Great software could also predict assuming big data. Qik ppt http://bit.ly/lUjNeo

"Is real-time possible or is there just too much information for real-time?"

Absolutely real-time is possible. Success depends on filtering the four types of right-time interactions for work that magnifies value. Without letting compliance fall thru the cracks.

Very experienced managers can filter the information haystack for this value, but not at increasing business velocities.

Dale - Thanks for the vote! Gartner loved the Two-Tier ERP thing so, I'm sure this will follow soon. =) I keep hearing People Centric Apps as well. - Ray

Good pragmatic analysis Ray. My colleague Tony Lock is always correcting me when I use the term 'real time' in too loose a manner. This 'right time' view of the world is pretty useful. Take this as an advanced apology for times to come when I will no doubt reference it without full attribution :-)

In the meantime, I'll vote for 'engagements apps' as an appropriate term - at least until Gartner picks up the idea and rebrands it :-(

Steve - thanks for your point of view. Prioritization of real-time vs right time continues to be a challenge many of our clients struggle with. We're sharing a model we've used to help in addressing the need for speed as well as prioritization. On your last point, this is not an epiphany, just a stake in the ground on where applications may be headed. Thanks again for the dialogue. Looking forward to more points of view. - Ray

some brief comments....

1) four types of real-time is splitting hairs.

2) Not a shift of Real-Time To Right-Time....they should be conjoined by relevance, action, triggers for smarter decision making.

3) The Emergence Of Engagement Apps beyond social…Hmm this is an epiphany ?
